On the 23rd of November, I helped Grace Lutheran Church to set up its Christmas decorations. A handful of others and I all worked together and were able to make the church look cheerful and light with Christmas decorations. I was able to joke around and be myself, and this experience has taught me how big a transformation decorations can bring about onto such a small and plain little church. After we were done we all took a picture and we all felt like family.

During the games for track, a group and volunteers and I were assigned a task. I and a group of others were assigned to place and set up the hurdles during the games. We had to be quick and work together in order to accomplish this job. It was very difficult, however it helped me to learn how to work with others, to be quick, and to work hard. I also was able to talk to friends and enjoyed watching many of the track players train and run.

For Saint Louis de Marilac, my brother, over a dozen volunteers, and I were serving others thanksgiving dinner for free at around 12:00 p.m. I helped people carry their food to their table, helped serve them, helped grab things for them, and was able to have nice conversations with them as well. The experience was great as I was able to help dozens of people and it helped me in my social skills. It also taught me to be patient as people would ask me for favors at the same time. But to me it was worth it in the end to see everyone content and happy.

During sixth period, I helped out my English teacher, Mrs. Shockey, with a scavenger hunt that reflects the novel Lord of the Flies. For the scavenger hunt, I stayed with Mrs. Grund and helped the freshman participating in the scavenger hunt on answering the questions and handing out the questions as well. The whole experience was fun and it was interesting how young the freshman look compared to the seniors within my class. It helps me realize how much time has passed and how important it is to try and enjoy your youth before it is too late.

Last Friday, Micheal Casto, Luis Gonzoles, and I all pitched together after school and collected the recycling around the school. It was fun to get to talk to others while working and I was surprised to discover that our efforts are used to help collect money to pay for scientific research! Knowing that, I realized that such small tasks can actually lead to something greater.

Within Mrs. Archer’s classroom, a couple of her students and I stayed after school and helped her set up for a skit with the freshmen students on the French Revolution. We moved around tables for the clergy, the king and queen, the court, and the manors. We also hung up banners so that the students would be able to identify the places they are in.

Last Friday and this Friday, I helped with the recycling in bioclub. Vanessa,Me, and Louis Gonzoles collected bottles last Friday while Marina, me, and Louis collected bottles this Friday. We all went to several classrooms that had recycle bins, collected the bottles, and soon threw them into the huge recycle cans. All the while it was enjoyable as we talked and laughed while recycling.

Last weekend, I went with my dad to a senior center and played chair volleyball with the seniors. My dad is the coach and helps the seniors during their practice. It was fun seeing the seniors crack jokes and tease each other playfully as if they were kids. I have been participating and helping out with their practices for a while now. About a month ago we even celebrated one of the volleyball player’s birthday who was an ex-navy man. As custom within the navy he wore a garter on his arm.

On Wednesday January 28 and on Sunday February 2, I was working with my tutor Jeff and the rest of the band at Grace Lutheran Church to preform for the congregation on Sunday. When I did many were happy that I was preforming vocally and instrumentally because it is nice for them to hear a different voice.

I work at least 3 hours every other week (2 hours on Wednesdays or Thursdays and one hour on Sunday) to preform at Grace Lutheran Church

Service 1/21/2014

At Grace Lutheran Church and Preschool, I played for Christmas mass and play at the church once every other Sunday, as I go to my father’s every other weekend. I really do enjoy playing for the church. Even though I might not be as amazing as a musician as i would hope, I have my church members and my band to really appreciate what I do. My tutor even took us all out to eat at a steak restaurant called Pinnackle Peak. What I learned is my connection with God through my music as well as what experience and friendships I gain by going out and being involved.
