How am I growing in my own awareness of my strengths and weaknesses?

What challenges have I been through?

In what ways have I started new challenges?

In what ways have I developed new skills?

In what ways have I shown perseverance and commitment to my activities?

In what ways have I worked collaboratively?

In what ways have I been engaged in issues with global importance?

What are the ethical or moral implications of what I’m doing and learning?

At this years Barnes and Nobles Book Fair I helped the Environmental Club by running a fishing activity for children. The activity had to do with pollution and the affect it has on the world around us. It was rewarding to be able to teach the children who participated about pollution and to have this game apply to a real life situation.

For the Charter Oak Book Fair at Barnes and Nobles I participated with my Charter Oak dance team in a performance. We helped to entertain those who came to the fundraiser. We did a warm up to begin and them performed our dance that we had been working on since the beginning of the school year. It was a lot of fun to be able to perform in front of parents and others to show what the Charter Oak dance department can do.

For the fall production at my school I was also Business crew head. As a business crew head I was in charge of all the financial business that went on to fund the show. I had a crew of about 4 individuals and I taught them to write POs, make a show budget, sell tickets, and deposit money. I was also in charge or ordering and selling tickets for the show. For about two weeks I sold tickets at lunch to students and stayed additional hours after rehearsal to sell to the cast and family members. Then during our DTASC showcase I ran the ticket booth and sold tickets and deposited the money from ticket sells and refreshment sells. In addition I made deposited for fundraisers and wrote many PO’s for all crews.

I was lucky enough to be apart of our fall production of 20th Century and play the part of Lily Garland. There were many complications with this show and there seemed to be a shorter length of time for rehearsals. Though we were able to pull through and placed first place at our CETA competition. Now we will be representing Charter Oak at the competition later in January. From this experience I learned the importance of the ensemble as a whole. As a cast we had to work together very similarly to how a team must perform on the field or court. In other shows I did not get as many opportunities to work with the cast as a whole but was given the opportunity during this show.

I was blessed this year with the opportunity to be Anna in our drama departments performance of the King and I. It helped me in many ways to grow as an actor and to further show committment to the department and acquire a new sense of responsibility. I was also the publicity crewhead which was very challenging. I was in charge of poster designs, postcards, bulliten announcements, and basically anything else that related the the publicity of the show. I was also apart of our schools dance show. This was a totally new experience for me and being able to perform three dances with my Advanced Dance team was amazing. It took a lot of hard work to choregraph all of our dances and make sure they were perfect for when we stepped out onto the stage. I never realized how hard our Advanced Dance team worked all year long on preparing rally dances and their dance show. Lastly, I volunteered at my friends tea party. The whole day we made tea for the party and it was a great chance to work with new people. It was nice how at the end they called up all the volunteers and thanked them for all their hard work. It really felt great to be recognized for such a simple job being done.
